I was in the dream/desire phase most of my life. The problem was I didn’t know it. Does this sound anything like you or someone you know? I now understand why I remained stuck for so long. It was a learning experience that allowed me to arrive at this point in my life where I can share with others how to move beyond the phase that keeps us stuck. And, if not stuck, it keeps you searching.
“You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus”
— Mark Twain
My biggest problem wasn’t that I hadn’t experienced successes over the years. I’ve actually been quite successful. The problem with having been successful, especially as it relates to the workplace, was that it turned out to be my distraction. The “comfort zone” syndrome (disguised as accomplishments) was the very thing that held me hostage. I’d been on and off course most of my life and hadn’t realized it. It reminds me of having a navigation system without a destination. Is this now sounding familiar?
Keep this in mind: We don’t know what we don’t know, which means we don’t know we’re being held hostage – and that it’s self-inflicted. As a result, this becomes the norm. It’s also convenient and takes less work. So we continue to stay in jobs and other situations where we are not fulfilled. We stay and stay and stay. There is an emptiness – something is missing – that causes us to yearn for something more. You don’t realize that the inner tugging that you’re feeling is desire. Do you have a strong desire that keeps tugging at you, yet you continue to stick with the same routine that got you stuck in the first place? The reality is that we often don't know how to do it any other way. We even try to convince ourselves that we're satisfied by saying, “It’s better than nothing.” Or some say, “That’s life, so deal with it.” Yes, this sounds convincing. But when we change how we think, our outcome will also change. You can’t do what you’ve always done and expect to get different results.
I’m here to say, “There is something better.” The “better" is already created in you just waiting to be unleashed. But anything worth having will take work. Therefore, expect the journey toward fulfillment to include some pain, sacrifice, and work. In the process, the best you will be revealed.
Step away from the rat race of life and align with your passion and purpose – by becoming what you were created to be.
Today I know exactly who I am and what I’m created to do – and I’m doing it. What about you? Do you know what you were created to do?
